The Cycle of Life begins in the Nursery Garden
Thu 16 May 2019Year 5 have been exploring Life Cycles in Science – we are looking at plants, insects and mammals. What better way to start the cycle by planting some seedlings and infant plants in the Nursery Garden. All the Early Years children and Year 5 can now see the plants flourish and grow ready for the end of the Life Cycle when we harvest and eat them.

Cricket World Cup Fever Hits Year 5
Thu 16 May 2019As part of our PE sessions and because the weather has been so great, Year 5 have been taking part in quick cricket matches. For some it is a first introduction into cricket so using the bat and bowling accurately has been a learning curve.
A couple of players have now learnt that cricket is different to rounders and you don’t have to drop the bat before running. As the sessions continue the improvements are there to see and I am sure that a few will be knocking on the club, county and national doors in the future.
A special mention to Rony & Savith who played their first club games this week and were narrowly beaten. As is the English way – it was spin which was their undoing. Get on that front foot boys and you’ll be fine.

Social Media & Mental Health For Our Children
Wed 15 May 2019Our children are exposed to many more issues regarding social media than ever before. Even though most social media sites have age limits these are frequently dismissed by parents who innocently believe that their child will be able to cope with any issues that arise from their use of the platforms whilst not monitoring their usage closely.
More and more instances of ‘fall-outs’ among children are being brought into school where the children are not able to cope with issues with their friends and other users. Unfortunately the excuse that ‘their friends are on them so i don’t want them to miss out’ isn’t a good enough reason for letting them use these age inappropriate sites.
As a parent, if you are prepared to allow your child to use Social Media sites that are deemed too old for their age please do read the attached file and hopefully this will provide some tips so the children are able to either deal with issues themselves, feel confident enough to report the issues to you before they escalate or the children decide that Social Media sites are not really for them at this time.

The Year 4 Handball team won silver at the tournament held at Salford City Academy this afternoon.

Smart Safety
Wed 24 Apr 2019Children are using smart devices from a much younger age than ever before. Therefore it’s essential we talk to our children about how to use them safely. There are many positive benefits to the new technology at our disposal these days – but there are plenty of downsides too. As a parent, it’s important you understand these risks and how you can take steps to protect your family against them.
If you are in any way unsure please use the details on the pdf to help or you can always visit the following sites:

Time to Mine
Sat 13 Apr 2019After lunch we had a lovely walk in the sunshine down to the Great Orme Mine. Our guide told us some fantastic information about life in the mine from the Bronze Age through to Victorian times. The children donned their hard hats and entered into the tunnels. We saw how the smelting was done and that Bronze weapons produced here could be found as far away as Denmark & Norway!

We’ve arrived!
Sat 13 Apr 2019After making brilliant time we have arrived at Lledr Hall and met our instructors for the weekend. After a quick briefing on life and expectations at the centre it was time to throw our gear into the dorms. Please note how tidy they look!

Get your gear on
Sat 13 Apr 2019One of the most exciting aspects of Lledr Hall is the Gear Room where all the children get their stuff for the weekend. Each of us gets a number and a peg and must remember (tricky) this all weekend. Fleeces are tried on, waterproofs and then the big heavy walking boots. The best bit is trying on the helmets and then racing to get them all on!
