  • Year 6 treat!

    Fri 24 May 2019

We would like to say a massive well done to all of our year 6 pupils for their hard word and determination throughout SATs week. We are proud of every one of you! The pupils had a great time letting off steam in Victoria Park and having a bite to eat at McDonalds.

  • The Orchard

    Tue 21 May 2019

Year 6 children were today helping Mr Sabatino and the Eco-Committee in planting a selection of fruit trees for the new allotment area – or the Orchard as it has been fondly named.

In thanks to a fantastic and very generous donation from Daikin UK and organised by our Year 6 parent, Mr Warrington, we are planning to create and build a fantastic area which can be used by all classes for growing fruit and vegetables. It will have amazing cross-curricular links with Geography, Science, Maths, Creative arts and much more.

We hope to see the raised beds being made on site with Mr Sabatino, Mr Chadwick and the children of St Mary’s really being involved in the build. I think we will even have some of Daikin’s employees coming to lend a hand. We hope to have the allotment area finished by the end of the Summer term and ready for all to use.

  • The Cycle of Life begins in the Nursery Garden

    Thu 16 May 2019

Year 5 have been exploring Life Cycles in Science – we are looking at plants, insects and mammals. What better way to start the cycle by planting some seedlings and infant plants in the Nursery Garden. All the Early Years children and Year 5 can now see the plants flourish and grow ready for the end of the Life Cycle when we harvest and eat them.

  • Cricket World Cup Fever Hits Year 5

    Thu 16 May 2019

As part of our PE sessions and because the weather has been so great, Year 5 have been taking part in quick cricket matches. For some it is a first introduction into cricket so using the bat and bowling accurately has been a learning curve.

A couple of players have now learnt that cricket is different to rounders and you don’t have to drop the bat before running. As the sessions continue the improvements are there to see and I am sure that a few will be knocking on the club, county and national doors in the future.

A special mention to Rony & Savith who played their first club games this week and were narrowly beaten. As is the English way – it was spin which was their undoing. Get on that front foot boys and you’ll be fine.

  • Social Media & Mental Health For Our Children

    Wed 15 May 2019

Our children are exposed to many more issues regarding social media than ever before. Even though most social media sites have age limits these are frequently dismissed by parents who innocently believe that their child will be able to cope with any issues that arise from their use of the platforms whilst not monitoring their usage closely.

More and more instances of ‘fall-outs’ among children are being brought into school where the children are not able to cope with issues with their friends and other users. Unfortunately the excuse that ‘their friends are on them so i don’t want them to miss out’ isn’t a good enough reason for letting them use these age inappropriate sites.

As a parent, if you are prepared to allow your child to use Social Media sites that are deemed too old for their age please do read the attached file and hopefully this will provide some tips so the children are able to either deal with issues themselves, feel confident enough to report the issues to you before they escalate or the children decide that Social Media sites are not really for them at this time.

  • Year 4 Handball Runners Up

    Tue 07 May 2019

    So close…

The Year 4 Handball team won silver at the tournament held at Salford City Academy this afternoon.

The children had a great afternoon competing against eight other primary schools and came very close to achieving gold. The team were great ambassadors for their school displaying all of the school games values. Well done – I am so proud of you all.
