Nightline
Sat 13 Apr 2019Now for the funniest part of the Lledr Hall weekend. Yet it is also the moment when eh children learn that teamwork and trust is all important in rising and achieving a challenge. The children work in pairs and one wears blacked out goggles whilst the other partner guides them around the course with instructions only. However the catch is that amidst all the laughter a few of the instructions either go unheard or become slightly confused. Left becomes right, forwards becomes backwards. And so. Even more laughter ensues. The children loved this and in the words of our instructor, Mrs Angle-Smith, ‘I’ve never before taken a full Year 3 class on this at the same time, but now i know why you love doing it. This is one of the funniest things i’ve seen in ages.’ And it definitely is…

Jungle Gym Fun
Sat 13 Apr 2019All the children were split into teams today and separated for the different activities. Teamwork and the jungle gym is always one of the best activities as they must work together to get everybody round. The obstacles are designed that without the full cooperation then you just couldn’t progress.
There was laughter throughout and each team managed to complete the course with everybody home safe…

Slide of Doom!!!
Sat 13 Apr 2019Reaching the end of the jungle gym is one thing but then the children have to negotiate the Slide of Doom! At this point a few mention they need the toilet, a few want to turn back, some say they won’t scream and the rest just can’t wait. But everyone ends up smiling when they reach the bottom. You may think it’s not that steep but to a seven/eight year old this is the edge of Everest!

Where am I?
Sat 13 Apr 2019We give the children a map of the grounds and twelve markers that they have to find. They have a small map reading session and then a few tips and they are off. They burst out of the classroom, run around like headless chickens for a few minutes before getting into the swing of things and hunting for those twelve points. All of the children work really well together (a common theme of the weekend) but still haven’t realised that shouting, “I’ve found one!” brings everybody else running to where they are! Every time we do the orienteering course the staff purposely leave out the warning of the swamp (not very deep and not quicksand) near three of the markers. It is a cruel way for the staff to have a chuckle and maybe a sweepstake to see who runs into it first. The prize for 2019 goes to Fabiana!

Man/Woman Overboard!!!
Sat 13 Apr 2019All the children are desperate to do the canoeing and with a sunny day it was almost perfect weather. However a small wind picked up for the early groups which led to some hard paddling and treacherous swapping of boats. The children learn how to hold the paddle, which way to row, do 360 degree turns at speed and how to avoid the rapids at the end. Unfortunately the fish weren’t jumping today so nothing to throw on the barbecue. They have to swap boats and then play the hokey-cokey where a body part of two has to be in the water. Cue the screams of both boys and girls moaning that their carefully groomed hairstyles were getting ruined!
The final group, as it’s the end of the day, got the chance to ‘fall in!’ Now you would think that these poor, exhausted and slightly sea-sick kids wouldn’t want to. Step forward, Rebekah, Isabella, Louie, Kalan & Fabiana. For good measure and to get their own back, Mr Chadwick was cruelly tricked into falling backwards and creating a small tsunami across the pond! Those pesky kids!

Room Update!
Sat 13 Apr 2019I know that the children probably have the tidiest rooms at home with everything in their place. I imagine that mums & dads would want to see the same cleanliness when they are away. I’m not sure the children received that particular memo. I must admit that i have seen worse!

Wales by firelight
Sat 13 Apr 2019The children have been well-fed with a three course dinner but still they want more! We’ll be having a movie night later but no LLedr Hall experience is complete without a campfire and toasted marshmallows. Year 3 just couldn’t get enough of it and three marshmallows later (some sneaky ones tried for a fourth) it’s time to dampen the flames and head back inside as the bats come out to play.

Rooms Update 3!
Sat 13 Apr 2019I take it back. After the bonfire they really are a bit of a state. But as we know Girls are definitely messier than boys. Not that the girls agree!

Do we really have to climb that hill?
Fri 12 Apr 2019As soon as we arrived in Llandudno it was time to walk up to the railway. The children couldn’t wait for the tram and some wanted to start off straight away! Eventually the tram came but lo and behold it was broken! So as the majority of the class jumped on the replacement coach six of us set off up the hill in a doomed attempt to beat the bus. Unfortunately we got as far as the first corner before it came flying past. We eventually got to the midway stop and caught the upper tram which luckily was still working!
