Emotion Coaching

All staff have completed Emotion Coaching training to ensure a whole school approach to provide an emotional bond that creates a safe haven, a place of trust, respect and acceptance. This leads to children giving back respect, acceptance and boundaries. Emotion coaching helps staff to empathise, label and validate young people's feelings.

Managing my Emotions

This programme aims to:

  • Identify Individual triggers that affects their emotions.
  • Recognise changes to the body during anger.
  • Appropriate ways of managing anger.
  • Introduce strategies to avoid conflict.
  • Develop strategies for dealing with issues related to conflict.

Time To Talk

Time to talk gives children throughout the school the opportunity to talk through their worries, build-up their self-esteem, develop their friendship and social skills. Making school life a happy, safe and caring environment. Time to Talk sessions are available on request from children by posting their names through the ‘Time to Talk Post Box’. Mrs Sabatino will arrange a session at the earliest convenience.

Pyramid Club

Pyramid Club is aimed at either quiet, shy or anxious pupils who don’t always get involved in team work, class debates/discussions and performances without feeling nervous.

It is a club designed to boost self-esteem and confidence. It has run in school before and has had great results; children find their voice and develop confidence, resulting in high participation in class and increasing their progress.

Restorative Justice

Restorative Justice is a strategy that seeks to repair relationships that have been damaged. It enables those who have been harmed to convey the impact of the harm to those responsible. For those responsible to acknowledge this impact and take steps to put it right. It does this by bringing about a sense of remorse and restorative action on the part of the offender and forgiveness by the victim.

Daily Mindfulness

Daily Mindfulness are short activities which take place throughout the school day. It helps pupils practice working deeply within their own mind, paying attention to the object of meditation, such as breath, mind or the body. It helps them focus on letting go of thoughts that may arise, of emotions, of judgments, criticisms and conflict: so they are then able to focus on their learning.

Art Therapy Sessions

(Groups – Managing my Emotions, Monday Morning Blues, Confidence and Friends)

Each Art Therapy group session has a set theme, which runs over 6-10 week. In these sessions, we look at how special we are, how God made us all different and unique. We focus on using creativity and imagination to talk about our feelings, to think about ‘What would Jesus’ do in certain situations and ‘To be more like Jesus’. Children also create a range of coping skill tools that they can refer to when needed.

Circle of Friends

Circle of friends is an approach enhancing the inclusion of any young person experiencing behaviour and social difficulties in school. It works by encouraging those in the peer group to look at their own behaviour and develop an understanding of the focus child’s behaviour and difficulties. They will then be able to provide a support network, think of strategies and practical solutions to help the focus child so they are able to build closer and better relationships with other children.

Kindness Catcher gives pupils the opportunity to take control and witness their peers being kind to someone. They write down who they have caught and details about the kind act. All ‘Kindness Act’ slip are placed into the Kindness Catcher; 2 slips are pulled out in Praise Assembly each week and given prizes. All children who have been caught being kind receive 5 house points each.
