Roald Dahl Day Celebration
Wed 14 Sep 2016On Tuesday 13th September 2016, the children of St. Mary’s joined children and adults from across the world in celebrating the life of one of Britain’s most beloved children’s authors, Roald Dahl. Mr Dahl would have been 100 years old on this day, and so it was fitting that we remembered him by dressing up as characters from his books in his honour.
Children and staff alike took part in the festivities, as St Mary’s was invaded by an army of Oompa Lumpas, along with lookalikes of Matilda, Willy Wonka and The Twits! All of our pupils took part in an array of fantastic Roald Dahl related activities, including creating Roald Dahl artwork, Reading Comprehensions, Maths Challenges and Singing. And of course, we all enjoyed reading and listening to excerpts from Roald Dahl’s stories throughout the day. Some children were even lucky enough to be able to watch the Puffin Roald Dahl Virtually Live Podcast in their classes, hosted by the poet Michael Rosen and illustrator Quentin Blake.
A fabulous time was had by all, and we also managed to raise some money for the Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, with each child who came to school in fancy dress donating £1 to the cause.
