  • End of a school year 2020

Fri 17 Jul 2020 Mrs Raynor

    Good morning St Mary’s Mates,

I would like to say a HUGE thank you for all your hard work this year, both in school and at home. It has been amazing to see how much learning has continued during lockdown. Like so many of you I have been working at home since March, but I am so looking forward to joining all of you and the staff in September. Although after being away for so long, it will be so strange for all of us, I am sure we will all settle back into our school routine very quickly and not be too worried about September. We will all support each other as St Mary’s Mates and make sure we are safe in our happy, friendly school. The teachers will have lots of fun learning activities ready, as well as lots of opportunities to catch up.

I would like to say goodbye and praise our Y6 pupils as they move on to High School. Thank you so much for everything you have done at St Mary’s. Good luck for the future.

I wish you all and your families a wonderful summer holiday, and excitedly await our new school year.

Keep safe, be good and pray.

    God bless

    Mrs Raynor

  • A Frank Cottrell-Boyce fun challenge (with CAFOD Summer of Hope)

Fri 10 Jul 2020 Mr Loynd

This morning we received a special letter from CAFOD, containing an exciting opportunity for you to get creative with the famous children's author, Frank Cottrell-Boyce.  You might have read some of Frank's books already - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Runaway Robot and Sputnik's Guide to Life on Earth are some of his best-known books, although he has written lots of others too.

When Frank was your age, he attended a Catholic Primary school, just like you (his was called St. Bartholomew's), and now he is challenging you to join in with him by taking part in  the CAFOD Summer of Hope Campaign.

It's really easy to get involved.  Just follow the instructions below.

Frank Cottrell Boyce and the CAFOD Summer of Hope Challenge

Think about your life during lockdown:

What has given you hope during this challenging time?

It might be an object, an activity, a person, a phrase, or an idea.

Your challenge: in just one word, or one sentence, tell us what has given you hope

You can use pictures or designs to illustrate your words

If you’ve put your ideas down on paper and you want to send a photo of it, that’s fine too!

Frank is going to collect all of your ideas together and will write a short piece describing what you children have said you are hopeful about.

Before emailing your work in, please make sure that you have included your first nameyour age, and your town.

Finally:  Please ask permission from an adult to email your ideas to schools@cafod.org.uk before Monday July 27th .

Please note, by sending in your submission (whether written or a drawn) you give CAFOD permission to reproduce it for use for this project, and others, including media work.  You can find full details in the attached PDF document being sent out to you on Purple Mash email.

REALLY IMPORTANT:  DON'T send your work into school, or to your teacher on Purple Mash email.  You MUST send it to the CAFOD email address above for it to be entered into the challenge.

    Good luck!

    Mr Loynd

  • What a fabulous Arts Week we've had!

Fri 03 Jul 2020 Mrs Murphy

Well we've come to the end of another wonderful Arts Week and we have proven to everyone we can still have an incredibly creative week even at home. We are extremely proud of all your amazing efforts, achievements and creations made throughout the week.

The Lowry are asking Salford residents of any age to share their creative responses to the lockdown; these could be poems, stories, videos, photos or artwork. The work will be shared online until they re-open & then they will be displayed in the gallery. We will certainly be sending all our fabulous work from this week and will be sharing our St Mary's Street project when it's finished (so keep sharing your house creations with us up until the 10th July). For more information visit  https://thelowry.com/dayslikethese/

Thank you to all those who shared your Arts Week work with us. You can view this work in our online Gallery (under the Children tab above) and will still add to these as photos come in to us. We have seen such a magnificent range of art and craft creations, drama, singing and dance performances, photography, fashion and design skills which have not only been an inspiration to your friends but your teachers too. So many of you have discovered new talents and skills and we just couldn't be prouder of all our St Mary's mates. Very well done everyone!

  • EXCLUSIVE - St Mary's Google Live Assembly

Fri 03 Jul 2020 Mr Chadwick

St Mary's is going to be on YouTube!

On Friday 10th July at 12pm a special assembly is going to be hosted by Google & Parent Zone EXCLUSIVELY for the children from our school. It will be all about Online Safety and explain about how children can:

     “Be Internet Legends.”

The session will be shown live on Youtube with shout-outs for the children at school and working from home, so make sure you tune in using the following link: https://youtu.be/djU4EjOxBRU

The assembly will last for 30-40 minutes and will be outlining the many safety issues, hints, tips and pitfalls to the modern day surfer & gamer.

To make the most of the internet, children need to make smart decisions. Be Internet Legends empowers younger children to use the web safely and wisely, so they can be confident explorers of the online world.

The Be Internet Legends programme is designed to teach your child the skills they need to stay safe and have a positive time online. Your involvement at home can really help reinforce these key messages to help your child become more confident when exploring the online world.

We want as many children watching and being involved as possible so please do join in the session which is also great for parents.

See you all next Friday at 12pm on Youtube and you can all become INTERNET LEGENDS!!!
