  • Key Stage Two Thank God for the Harvest

    Thu 20 Oct 2016

Children in Key Stage 2 celebrated Harvest time with the school and parents through an assembly.

Children thought about how they could be as generous as God during Harvest time.

They took part in giving thanks for the food that they receive and displayed food from other countries around the world.

“Help us all to care for each other and the world around us. Let us be good stewards of creation, and help us sustain the earth. Let us use the gifts that we have been given wisely to help other people.”

  • Year 2 Perfect Poetry Performers

    Mon 17 Oct 2016

Year 2 have been looking at different poets and styles of poetry this week. We created our very own Revolting Rhyme in the style of Roald Dahl, for the Revolting Rhymers competition. We then looked at a variety of poems to perform and studied what it takes to make our performances interesting. Finally we looked at a very funny poet called Murray Lachlan Young and his poem titled “Don’t”. We created our very own version of ‘Don’t’ and performed them to other classes.

  • KS1 Celebrate Harvest

    Mon 17 Oct 2016

On Friday Year 1 and Year 2 performed a wonderful harvest assembly to celebrate this very special time of year. They performed songs with actions and their very own version of The Little Red Hen. They reminded us how lucky we are to have food harvested by the hard working farmers, and we collected tins to give to those who are less fortunate than us.

  • Clown Craze

    Fri 14 Oct 2016

    Dear parents

I’m sure you’ve seen recent newspaper reports and social media posts about the clown craze which seems to have spread to England from America.

Please find below Greater Manchester Police’s statement about this:

“I just want to reassure you that, while there has been a lot of speculation and rumours flying around on social media, police in Salford have received very few reports of sightings locally and no-one has actually been discovered taking part.

While investigations are continuing and the police have made it clear there is zero tolerance for any threatening  or menacing behaviour, they and we are urging people to avoid fuelling the craze and creating more distress by speculating and sharing rumours on social media.

We also want to remind you that, if anyone is found to be partaking in this craze, Salford City Council also has legal powers to deal with anti-social behaviour.

The safety of people is our upmost priority; we want people to feel safe going about their daily lives. The individuals who are getting involved in this may not realise just how frightening it is to be on the receiving end, especially for children. It shows a complete disregard for people’s wellbeing and will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester.

It’s important to stress that no-one has been physically harmed and I want to reassure people that we take reports of this nature extremely seriously.

If you witness an incident, or want to make a report, please contact police as soon as possible by phoning 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, ring 999.”

  • Stone Age No Pens Day

    Thu 13 Oct 2016

On Wednesday last week the school took part in the nationwide No Pens Day. Year 3 decided it would be a Stone Age day. We created Stone Age houses from caves to roundhouses covering the Paleolithic through to the Neolithic eras. We also engaged our Archaeology Minds and created and studied Stone Age remains to help out inquisitive enquiry. In addition we role played some of the characters that you may expect to see in the Stone Age.

All in all it was a really creative day and the houses that the children made were absolutely fantastic.

  • Salford Schools Cross Country – Race 2

    Mon 03 Oct 2016

In slightly colder circumstances this weekend St Mary’s athletes again performed brilliantly. Each runner improved or held their ranking from last weekend with a special mention to Luca who ran for the first time and came in 8th overall. Now that we know the course and as we continue to practice we should see even better results next weekend in the final Salford Mets Athletic Club races. Then it will be on to the main Salford Schools events…
