  • World Book Day

Wed 24 Feb 2021 Mrs Kinman

    Dear parents,

We are very excited about World Book Day on Thursday 4th March and we would love to make this year’s celebrations just as special as last year.

We would like all of the children, in school and at home, to dress up as their favourite book character for the day.  There are lots of ideas on the internet to inspire you to make your own costumes.

Your child’s teacher will be choosing a book for the class to focus on.  This will be read to the class in their live lesson in the morning.  They will then continue with reading and writing activities based on this book for the rest of the morning, therefore there will be no live maths lessons on this day.

All activities will be shared with the children on Google Classroom and Purple Mash.

  • Lockdown Lent

Tue 23 Feb 2021 Mrs Brown

    LOCKDOWN LENT

For many years now during Lent the pupils of St Mary’s have given generously to St Joseph’s Penny.

We would usually take home money boxes to collect coins from friends and family, do jobs around the home to earn money for our boxes, give up sweets/chocolate and donate the money instead! In school each class would set up enterprises, do Easter competitions and cake sales, all to add to the school donation.

This year due to the Covid restrictions it is going to be challenging but we wish to continue our charity work as St Joseph’s Penny needs us! #LockdownLent

We have set up the following Just Giving page for our school to donate straight to the charity:

    https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/st-marys-swinton-lockdown-lent

Throughout Lent we would like all our pupils to raise what they can and donate via the link above.

How can we raise money in lockdown?

Donate your pocket money: you can earn pocket money by helping your parents at home in a number of ways: tidy your bedroom, help with the cooking, read with your younger siblings, help with the gardening, wash the car, take the dog for a walk!

Do sponsored events: ask your friends and family to sponsor you to do a sponsored run, walk…take inspiration from Sir Captain Tom!

How about a sponsored silence…how long could you last? This will be a great treat for parents during lockdown!

Once we are all back in school we can also have Easter raffles and cake sales in our bubbles to add to the total raised.

If every pupil and staff member could just raise and donate £2 each we raise an amazing £520 for St Joseph’s Penny!

Come on St Mary’s let’s do what we can to help!

    Draw your Dreams

    Bottle Moment Competition

Having hope helps us keep going when things are really hard. Your Bottle Moment is the one thing you'd most like to do again when everything is better and back to normal. It could be a friend you'd most like to see, a place you'd most like to go, a hobby you'd most like to get back to, or simply getting a hug from someone special.

Right now, the Covid-19 pandemic is particularly taking its toll on children. This is why we are calling all KIDS to draw their Bottle Moments!

According to Place2Be, a children’s mental health charity that provides counselling and mental health support in UK schools, around three children in every primary school class have a mental health problem, and many more struggle with challenges from bullying to bereavement. And as we know, the pandemic is having an untold impact on the well-being of our children.

Ten Ten has produced a 'video prayer' for Children's Mental Health Week.  Please take a look at the link below.
