  • St Mary’s History Day & The Inflatable Museum

    Fri 19 May 2017

What a day! It was fabulous to see the whole school enjoying the inaugural History Day. Each class dressed up in costumes relating to a Historical Era and they were very well presented.

The school created a Historical Human Timeline on the field which showed all the periods from the Stone Age to Present Day, including the Vikings, Egyptians, Roman, Victorians and Famous People. As the history books state there were a few skirmishes between the various groups which were also re-enacted.

We must say a very big thank you to the Manchester Museum who came in and really enhanced the awe and wonder of the day. The Inflatable Museum was erected in the hall and each class had the chance to go and view, touch and discuss various objects.

Early Years and Key Stage 1 had animals on show ranging from a hare to a field mouse. They could touch most of the animals and really get a close view of their features. Where did they come from? How did they live? Why are they in the box were some of the questions raised by the children.

Key Stage 2 had something slightly different to get their quizzical and curious imagination round. There were eight objects on show including the skulls of four animals. What were they? What time period were they from? How would they have been used? Who would have used them? The children loved the debates and some of their answers show what an imaginative group of children St Mary’s have.

The children and staff didn’t really know what to expect from the museum and we must say a very big thank you to Jack and Rachel who led the sessions. What pleased them and staff the most is that all the children were now desperate to go to the museum and see some more of the artifacts close up. Please click on the link below which will give you the Manchester Museum details and the brilliant exhibitions and half term programs they have on.

Finally a very big thank you to all the parents as the children looked absolutely fantastic and really enjoyed the day.

  • History Day – Stone Age Cave Paintings

    Wed 17 May 2017

As part of the History Day Year 3 went back in time to almost 1.5 million years ago and created their own Cave Art. The Stone Age period produced some amazing, if simple, cave paintings depicting the lives of those at the time. In costume the children had great fun recreating some of the art.

  • Year 2 Dance Explorers

    Fri 12 May 2017

Year 2 have been learning all about explorers from the past in their History work and our very clever dance teacher used this as our theme in dance. We thought about moves our explorers might have used including how Christoper Columbus moved whilst exploring sea and new lands, and how Neil Armstrong  may have moved whilst exploring space. We then put this into a whole dance exploring sea, land and space.

  • A visit from Curious Critters

    Fri 12 May 2017

Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning all about ‘Animals including Humans’ in their science topic this term so we invited Danny from Curious Critters to tell us more about some ‘not-so-everyday’ animals. We found out some interesting facts and were brave enough to hold a few.  We would like to send a BIG thank you to Danny at Curious Critters for a fantastic afternoon.

  • Wardley v St Mary’s

    Fri 05 May 2017

The second game between these two great sides started with end to end attacks by both teams before St Mary;s broke the deadlock with a great goal from Liam.

Second half started well for St Marys with goals coming from Liam and Finley    Liam finished off the game with his hat-trick. A special mention to the goalkeeper, Diwei, for some great saves and keeping the score line down to zero.

Man of the Match: Liam for a great hat-trick.

    Full time result: Wardley 0 – St Mary’s 4

  • St Mary’s V Mossfield

    Thu 04 May 2017

An opening goal within sixty seconds by Finley set St Mary’s on their way to their second victory in two games. Captain Finley led by example again to push his team up-field and not give Mossfield a second on the ball. All the pressure led to mistakes being made by the opposition which St Mary’s pounced upon and Liam scoring two super goals.

Another great team performance which led to two quick goals to take the score into 3-0 at half time.

Second half was similar to the first with St Mary’s harassing Mossfield all over the pitch.

    Final score: St Mary’s 3  –  Mossfield 1

Man of the match: Bryn for always making runs up and down the wing to allow space for the central midfielders to attack.

  • St Mary’s V Wardley

    What a game!

This led to three quick goals: with two superb solo efforts from Finley who neatly slotted be ball in to the back of the net after beating 5 players. WOW!!!!!

The second half was like the first – team defending and team attacking which led to four second half goals. An outstanding goal keeping show by Diwei who kept the opposition down to one goal.

Man of the match – Finley Mc for an all round strong performance who was a true leader in all areas of the game.
