  • Christmas in the Community

    Wed 20 Dec 2017

This week we held our annual Christmas in the Community event.  Our wonderful PTA members and Missionary Disciples served drinks and light refreshments for the elderly members of our community.  This was followed by some exciting games of bingo called by Mrs Murphy and Mrs Brown.  Some amazing hampers were up for grabs!  Finally, the afternoon culminated with a wonderful carol service led by our key stage 2 pupils. We thoroughly enjoyed entertaining members of our community and sharing this special festive season with them.  An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

  • St Mary’s Christmas Bake Off

    Wed 20 Dec 2017

This week we held our annual Christmas Bake Off.  Our competitors were split into 3 different age categories; 3-5 years old, 6-8 years old and 9 – 11 years old. The standard this year was so high, our wonderful judges, who are local expert bakers themselves, had such a difficult job to do. Winners received a voucher for Slattery’s and the runners up received a baking set or cookery book. Thank you to all who took part!

  • Wednesday Workshops-Autumn Term

    Wed 13 Dec 2017

Thank you to all our parents who attended our English focused “Wednesday Workshops” throughout the Autumn Term. We had a greater attendance than our after school workshops we have delivered in the past.

The evaluations provided outstanding feedback, 100% of parents enjoying the workshops and gaining an insight to how children learn at St Mary’s and how you can help your child at home. The only improvements commented was to provide more for other subjects…well don’t you worry they are coming up!

Wednesday workshops will continue throughout the school year. In Spring, workshops will be focusing on Mathematics and in the Summer we will focus on Science.

Here is the timetable of the Spring Term, we do hope you can attend. The timetable will also be displayed on the parent notice board and in the newsletter.

Thank you again for attending and I look forward to seeing you in the spring term!

  • Year 2 LOVE Traction Man by Mini Grey

    Tue 12 Dec 2017

Over the last few weeks Year 2 have been looking at the story of Traction Man by Mini Grey. We love the adventurous missions he goes on and the different costumes he wears for them! After learning about the story, describing the main character and creating our own costumes for Traction Man to wear, we started to plan our own version of “Traction Man’s visit to school”. In groups we planned his mission, thinking about who would be the victim (e.g. The Poor Pens) and enemy (e.g. Wicked Professor Ruler) in the classroom. Then we set up a mission scenario using things from around our class and our very own Traction Man Action figure. We recorded mini movies of the scenes with narrations and then wrote up our stories using our movies. Our final stories are amazing – even if we do say so ourselves!

We created bridges for Traction Man to cross out of glue sticks and books” width=”300″ height=”225″ /> We created bridges for Traction Man to cross out of glue sticks and books, a forest of pens and a sea of maths counters – it was lots of fun!

We created zip wires from string, parachutes from pencil cases, swamps out of scissors – all for Traction Man’s school adventure! We LOVED filming them too! • Year 2’s trip to the library

    Thu 07 Dec 2017

Year 2 enjoyed a lovely trip to Swinton Library to visit Lynn the librarian and explore lots of exciting books. Lynn read us some stories and explained how we can visit the library any time we like. We took time to explore the different genres and titles, we can’t wait to go back again soon!
