  • Autumn Treasure

    This week we have been noticing the changes in Autumn . We went looking for Autumn Treasure and enjoyed looking at the different leaves. We noticed the leaves were different shapes and colours. We then noticed we had an Evergreen Tree which doesn't lose it's leaves and we even found Mr Sabatino's Pumpkin Patch with the baby pumpkins growing slowly under the huge leaves. We love Autumn.

    In Reception today we learnt about Salvador Dali and how he painted his dreams. We thought his painting were quite strange and his moustache was even stranger! We looked at the

    Salvador Dali Museum and decided to make our very own strange looking Dali Spoon People! We had a great time!

  • BBC Music Day

    What a fabulous time we have had today for BBC Music Day. We started with a warm up with Nina Nesbitt, the official warm up coach for BBC Music, and then performed some of our favourite songs. We explored instrument families with demonstrations from Mrs Butterworth and listened to a range of different music styles to see which instruments they often use e.g. Jazz music often uses woodwind instruments such as the saxophone. Finally we learnt all about a new online BBC music resource called "Bring The Noise" and took a special look at the new Blue Peter music badge, launched for today's special event, and designed by Ed Sheeran. 
  • Year 2 Xylophone Music Lessons

    Year 2 have been learning to play the xylophone. They started by understanding the layout of the instrument and then moved on to musical scales and basic notes. Once they had mastered the basics they moved on to learning ABBA's Mamma Mia, and even after a few practises  they already sound fabulous!
  • Year 2 Walk Around Swinton

    Year 2 had a lovely walk around our local area today practising their map and field work skills.  We had planned a route and followed this on the road map of Swinton. Along the way we recorded some of the different buildings and areas along our route. 
  • Year 6 Gymnastics

    Year 6 are really enjoying our weekly Gymnastics sessions with coach Sophie from Beth Tweddle Gymnastics.  This week, we looked at how to do a split jump, before moving on to creating sequences where we were jumping and travelling.  Next week we will be moving on to focus on some more advanced balances.  You can see our work in progress in the photographs below
  • Wednesday Word with Year 1

    Today we heard a story about two people.  The first was rich and had plenty of food to eat every day.   The second was poor and longed for something to eat.

     

    This story helped us to see how to treat one another.  God created the world with enough food for everyone. But we are not sharing fairly. Some of us have more food than we can eat, like the rich man. Some of us go to bed hungry, like Lazarus, the poor man.

     

    CAFOD is helping people around the world to make sure that they have enough to eat now and in the future.

     

    Every person in the world is special and loved by God. And every person in our big global family has the right to enough food for a healthy life. People might be hungry because they aren’t able to grow food, or they don’t have enough money to buy food. Sometimes farmers cannot afford the seeds they need. Sometimes storms or floods destroy their harvest.

     

    Hunger is a big problem. And it’s not easy to solve. Sometimes we ignore problems, hoping they will go away. The rich man in Jesus’ story is a bit like this. He ignores the fact that Lazarus is hungry, even though Lazarus is right outside his gate.

     

    God asks us not to ignore each other, but to help one another. Together, we can solve problems.

     

    We ended our worship with this closing prayer:

    Generous God, thank you for creating this world with enough food for all to share. Help us to play our part in making sure that all people can have their fair share of food to eat. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

     

  • Year 6 Drumming with MAPAS

    Year 6 are enjoying our half-term Brazilian Samba Drumming Project with Mr Newton from MAPAS.

     

    This afternoon we have been working on keeping a steady beat (known as a pulse), and creating a strong, regular, repeated pattern of sound (also called a rhythm).

     

    We began by creating a rhythm with our voices and a pulse with our hands on our knees. Firstly, we tapped a one-handed pulse to the rhythm, "shu-pa-do".  After that, we tried a two-handed pulse to the rhythm, "bang-the-drum-up-down" (right-right-right-left-right).

     

    Finally, Year 6 formed our own Class Bateria (another word for a samba band), where different groups of children were playing Surdos (large bass drums), Claves (pairs of wooden cylinders), Ganzas (cylindrical rattles), Agogo bells (large, double cow bells) and Tamborines (instruments like tambourines, but without bells).

     

    We have had a great time and have created some amazing music, as you can see from our photographs below.

     

  • Impressive enrichment activities

    We have been very impressed by the recent enrichment activities our pupils have been taking part in at home. All classes have suggested activities linked to their current topics and curriculum learning, and can complete just a few any time during the autumn term. Here are just of the few of what we have had so far. Well done! We can't wait to see what you bring in for the rest of the term.

    Year 1 Changing Seasons - Making a wind toy

     

    Today we discussed what the children see on windy days. We looked at examples of hand-held windmills, and toys that react to wind, including bubbles and toys with streamers.

     

    We all then followed some very tricky instructions to make a wind-indicator toy.

     

    After all our hard work, we went out to the playground to test our wind toys.  Luckily, it was a windy day and our streamers were blowing in the wind!

     

    Well done Year 1!
