    In our English and history lessons we have been learning about the Ancient Greeks and how they have influenced our lives today. We have used the internet to research the different gods and goddesses from ancient Greek times before choosing one to do an in-depth report on him/her. We have used our computing time to use the word package to type up our reports too.
  • Measles in Greater Manchester

    Wed 29 Jan 2020 Mrs Kinman

    Measles is circulating in Greater Manchester

    Measles is extremely infectious and can be serious. Ensure your children are protected.

    • Make sure your children get two MMR vaccines on time; the first at 1 year of age and the second at 3 years, 4 months
    • If you or your children missed these vaccines, it’s not too late. Ask for the free vaccine from your family doctor (GP) if you or your children aren’t up-to-date
    • If you have symptoms of measles, stay at home and phone your GP or NHS 111 for advice. STAY AWAY from GP surgeries and A&E departments – you could spread the illness to others
    • Symptoms include: high fever; sore red, watery eyes; coughing; aching and feeling generally unwell; a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after the first symptoms
    • Go to www.nhs.uk for more measles information

    Symptoms:

    * Rash

    * Temperature

    * Runny nose

    * Red eyes

    * Cough

  • Which liquid is the quickest?

    Wed 29 Jan 2020 L Johnson
    In our science lessons we are looking at ‘States of matter’ so today year 4 planned an investigation to see which of our five liquids: tomato ketchup, water, cooking oil, orange juice or marmalade will be the quickest to reach the end of our slope. We made our predictions before carrying out the investigation. We discovered that water was the quickest because of its consistency- we are still waiting for the tomato ketchup and marmalade to reach the end. Which will reach the end first between the tomato ketchup or marmalade? Keep watching!
  • Manchester Museum Comes To St Mary's

    Wed 29 Jan 2020 Mr Chadwick

    On Thursday 6th February the brilliant, interactive Inflatable Museum will be coming to St Mary's. It is part of the Manchester Museums educational programme bringing the delights of a museum to children allowing them to experience artefacts, touch, feel, smell and most importantly create wonder and critical thinking:

    Where did it come from?

    Why was it found there?

    Who used it?

    What was it actually for?

    Parents are also invited to join their children and have a look inside the museum.

    From 3.15 - 3.50 please come into the hall and enjoy the experience.

  • School Success - Modeshift Stars Bronze Award

    Tue 28 Jan 2020 Mr Chadwick

    The Eco Council and school are proud to announce that we have successfully achieved the Modeshift STARS Bronze accreditation. Here at school we are continually trying to promote a change in travelling to and from school by walking, cycling, getting the bus and really just ditching the car.

    We also run lots of other Eco initiatives and these have all added to another win for the school and your children.

    Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.

    The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.

    Established in 2007, Modeshift is a not for profit membership organisation funded by the public, private and community sectors in the United Kingdom.

  • Similes Superstars

    Tue 28 Jan 2020 Mr Chadwick
    Year 3 were working hard to today in English learning the differences between Similes and Metaphors. Using visual prompts from Miss Clarke they really thought outside the box and came up with some stunning ideas!
  • Touch Typing Authors

    Mon 27 Jan 2020 Mr Chadwick

    Year 3 today started the final part of ensuring their brilliant stories are completed in time for the BBC 500 Words Competition. Part of the computing Curriculum for Year 3 is touch typing - using word - and so today we started typing the stories onto documents so they can be submitted.

    The children practised the art of moving from one finger to having both hands on the keyboard and breaking it down into two halves. At the end we will be checking our work for spelling errors, punctuation that may be missing and even, adding in a few similes and metaphors from today's English lesson.

    Good Luck Year 3 - you have worked really hard for this.

  • Yr 4 Gymnasts.

    Mon 27 Jan 2020 L Johnson

    Good luck to our yr4 gymnastics team as they compete against other schools in the Key Steps Gym Competition.

    Update- the team did ever so well and came a respectable fifth out of over fifteen schools - so proud of you all!

  • Year 3 Celebration Assembly

    Fri 24 Jan 2020 Mr Chadwick

    Year 3 enjoyed performing their Celebration Assembly and it really tied in with our learning in Religion but also the journey that the children are currently on - Holy Communion.

    We all have journeys to take in our lives, from school to work to relaxing and we need people to help us on the way. The children came up with ideas of who was with them on their journey and of course they will be taking part in the Sacraments of Confession and Communion.

    The children were fantastic and performed their lives superbly. And when it came to the signing they really came to the for.
