  • Minecraft After School Club

    Wed 25 Apr 2018

Last week saw the start of the Minecraft After School Club. Each week the budding architects and builders have to compete against each other with a short build task. The children have ten minutes to create their masterpieces. Last week’s theme was Submarines and there were some amazing and inventive ideas. The children are allowed to join each other in a world and work collaboratively on their designs.

Last week’s winner was Harry McKeown.

  • Reducing Our Plastic Waste

    Wed 25 Apr 2018

    Dear Parents,

St Mary’s children and community are passionate about our planet and our Eco-Council would like to reduce our use of plastic in school. They are requesting that children bring a reusable drinking bottle to school and cut down our use of single-use plastic bottles.

Hopefully you will agree and our school will continue to play its part in Protecting Our Planet.

    Kind Regards

    St Mary’s Eco-Council

  • Back to winning ways

    Tue 17 Apr 2018

St Mary’s football team played the return match against St Boniface.

St Mary’s took advantage on the downhill slope of the pitch and score three quick goals to lead 3-0. A long range from their number 6 saw the line ‘just’ cross over the line.

Half time: 3-1 to St Mary’s.

The second half performance was outstanding which saw Liam score four goals in total, with a goal from Luca.

Full time result: St Mary’s 8 – St Boniface 2.

Player of the match, with his first hat trick for St Mary’s was Joe.

  • The Sacramental Journey continues…

    Sun 15 Apr 2018

Apart from a journey of discovery to Lledr Hall, the children are also on their Sacramental Journey and with this in mind we went to mass this morning at The Church of Y Bugail Da in LLanrwst which is very apt as it translates as the Church of the Good Shepherd. Father Franklin and his congregation welcomed us with great warmth and they were all very complimentary about the children who sang the hymns and spoke to the parishioners after Mass.

We have been welcomed back again in future years so thank you again Father Franklin and the family of LLanrwst.

  • Stone Age Rambles

    Sun 15 Apr 2018

In their History lessons the children discovered exciting facts about the Stone Age to Iron Age. Clearly they have embraced it because their knowledge was fantastic about the vast time period. To build on this learning we took a lovely walk, after Church, up to the Neolithic Burial Site of Capel Garmon which was in use almost 4000 years ago.

We discovered that even after the Bronze Age settlers in the area had ceased to use the site, the Romans took it over and used it for their purposes. We’re not sure if it was a reenactment or the children are just very tired because they decided to try the site on for size, lay down and pretended  to play dead. Some, we think, were using it as an excuse for a quick nap!

After learning about the site and the area the children decided there should be a battle between Bronze and Stone Age settlers with the final outcome….

    ….a draw!

  • Bye Bye Lledr Hall

    Sun 15 Apr 2018

After some amazing adventures, forging stronger friendships and experiencing new things it’s time to leave. We will be back on the coach at 2pm and our estimated time of arrival at school is 4.15 pm. Please keep checking the website for any updates in case of traffic problems.

  • What comes up must come down!

    Sat 14 Apr 2018

Splitting into groups the children had to really put their confidence and trust in their partners. Lots of the obstacles could not be completed without a lot of thought and working through. Some of the children had ideas immediately whilst others were more methodical. The wonderful aspect was that no one dominated and everybody listened and took on board the ideas. If something didn’t work the first time then they would go to the next idea.

Well done to everybody for staying on the ropes and not touching the ground – the consequences were terrible!

  • White Water Rapids

    Sat 14 Apr 2018

One of the most enjoyable activities at Lledr is the canoeing. Some of the children may be quite scared at first and the rocking of the boat certainly doesn’t help but by the end of the session almost all of them are ready for the Round The World Yacht Race. A few gentle reminders about which hands to use on the paddles and reassurance that their body warmers are actually buoyancy aids and they’re off. We have them doing 360 degree turns against each other, changing boats and then final races around the pond. Fortunately this year there were no shouts of ‘Man Overboard!’

  • Where are we?

    Sat 14 Apr 2018

Fortunately we have had great weather for our weekend at Lledr. However the previous weeks had left some of the ground quite boggy and being in a valley with a river running through it, there was always bound to be some treacherous areas. And almost all the children managed to find these areas and have a stomping good time trying to get through it still wearing a pair of boots. We’ve renamed one of them ‘Oliver’s Mud Marsh’

The children really enjoyed the orienteering and really took to map reading with great energy. We started off with simple, visual maps and then moved them onto basic Ordnance Survey maps as they were so good with the easier ones. Some great surprises with children having a fantastic sense of direction and their surrounding. Winner of the award for getting Mr Chadwick stuck in a rescue mission goes to Holly.

  • Surprise Arrival

    Sat 14 Apr 2018
After a hard day out on the activities the children were settling down, having their well-earned dinner, when we heard a car arrive and the children were amazed to see Mr & Mrs Raynor arrive to come a say hello and see how we were all getting on. Mrs Raynor had visited the hall a fair few years ago and was pleasantly surprised to see the changes. The children were really excited and ‘demanded’ a picture with Mrs Raynor down by the pond.
