Year 6 Science: Making Periscopes
Fri 04 Oct 2019On Thursday afternoon Year 6 made periscopes, as part of our Light and Sight Science topic. These enabled us to see around corners! We also discussed how periscopes are used on Submarines, to help the people inside to see above the surface of the sea. Our periscopes were constructed from cardboard nets, and with two mirrors in each one. The skills we have gained from this activity will also come in useful on Friday morning, when we will be making nets of 3-D shapes in Maths. -
Yr4 Science Investigators
Thu 03 Oct 2019In our science topic of 'Animals including Humans' we have been identifying the different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions. We planned an investigation to see the effects that different liquids have on our teeth. We used duck eggs to model teeth. We observed the changes over a seven day period. From the results we discussed how to prevent tooth decay - DON'T have too much vinegar!!! -

Year 3 Wednesday Word
Wed 02 Oct 2019Year 3 enjoyed a brisk morning in the Outdoor Classroom for our Wednesday Word. We enjoyed listening to Mrs Prescott, our two chaplains, Alex & Kadan and some of our children reading to the rest of the class.
The discussion centred around a reading from Luke's Gospel about having faith and being able to do amazing things. The parable was about the small mustard seed and Jesus describing how powerful faith is. How, if we have faith we can do anything we want, even if at first it seems impossible.

Ancient Egyptian Cartouche Creation
Wed 02 Oct 2019As part of the Year 3's deeper dive learning into the Ancient Egyptian Civilisation we used our Cartouche designs and started creating them out of clay. We managed to get outside into the fading light as the Egyptian Sun God, Ra, watched over us.
A cartouche is a name plate. It's usually oval with your name written in the middle of it. A cartouche is attached to your coffin.
The ancient Egyptians wanted to make sure that their two souls - the Ba and the Ka - could find their way back to their tomb at night, after they died. No one wanted their Ba or Ka to get lost.
