Rugby World Cup Warm Up
Fri 18 Oct 2019Year 5 & 6 continued the great tradition of having successful rugby teams as they sauntered to four wins out of four in the Salford School Tag Rugby Competition.
We had willing runners, great support, communication, teamwork, sportsmanship and of course Respect. Our opening game was against local rivals, St Mark's and the team romped home two tries with no response.
The next two games were closer but again we scored two tries in each to secure the win and then final game was the trickiest but they never stopped battling at the opponents line and eventually, after having a try disallowed, they went over for the decisive one.
We will be travelling back for the Knock Out rounds in February to face the winners from other groups - but we should do so without any fear.
Well done to all those who took part.

Ratatouille - Year 6 Food Technology
Fri 18 Oct 2019Year 6 have had a great time this morning preparing and making Ratatouille, a classic French vegetable dish, as part of our French Day celebrations.
"Ratatouille" is a French word meaning "a motley stew", and it has been a staple of French cuisine since 1778!
Whilst there is no precise recipe for ratatouille, it usually consists of pieces of vegetables which are all cooked together. Our ratatouille contains courgette, peppers, chopped tomatoes, onions, garlic and mixed herbs.
As you can see from our photographs, Year 6 prepared and chopped all of the vegetables ourselves.
We have cooked our ratatouille in a slow cooker, although you can also cook it in a saucepan. It smells and tastes delicious!

Croque Monsieur - Mr Crunch
Fri 18 Oct 2019The French are renowned for their culinary and gastranomic delights so Year 3 took one of their most famous exports (cheese and ham toastie) and made them for a mid morning snack.
We had chefs mixing ingredients, pouring, whisking, slathering and eventually taking them to Head Chef to be oven cooked for 10 minutes before we devoured them.
And they were Absolutement Excellent! So much so that poor Mariella was disappointed to miss out on a second helping!

The Big Soup Share
Fri 18 Oct 2019We are very fortunate at St Mary's to have excellent grounds to grow some fantastic vegetables and fruits.
Last week some of the Year 3 children helped Mr Sabatino harvest the produce and then it was cleaned, peeled, chopped and turned into a fantastic rustic Italian soup!
And how tasty was it? Just look at the faces of two of the children who sampled it.

Who Can Build The Tallest Eiffel Tower?
Fri 18 Oct 2019As part of our French Day we combined a landmark with a Science challenge. Who can build the tallest structure using only marshmallows and spaghetti.
The class split into five teams and all had a different design process. Some went for small but steady whilst other went for big and tall immediately but then found that the slightest breath would knock them over.
The winning group managed to design a great base and then add so it almost resembled the Famous Parisian Landmark.
Well done team!
