Year 5 Maths of the Day
Tue 10 Mar 2020Year 5 enjoyed an active Maths lesson today!
Children used mathematical skills, teamwork, tactics and running skills while trying to solve calculations related to perimeter and area.
The Green group, who completed the task in the quickest time, attributed their success to their teamwork
The Red 2 group were celebrated for their particularly fantastic organisation and sharing of tasks.
It was great to see and hear all groups using mathematical vocabulary and sharing ideas.
It was such a success we are already planning our next session which will be designed by the children themselves.

Forest Schools Orienteering
Mon 09 Mar 2020On Friday, Year 6 took part in the inaugural St Mary's Forest School Orienteering Session. As part of the Geography and Maths Curriculum is learning about the eight compass points, positions, directions and using a compass we combined it all in one session.
Around the school grounds there were Orienteering Flags and punches that the children had to find by following instructions from each point. First we had to learn how to use a compass which resulted in lots of children spinning round trying to find North and eventually realising that it is the compass that moves and not the person.
Then it was off and there were some confused looks at first and some flags were found out of the running order but on the whole a good session in the sunshine (thankfully.) Now let's see if Year 5 can find them quicker this week...

Year 6 Maths of the Day
Mon 09 Mar 2020Year 6 had a great time this morning with Mrs Murphy and Mr Loynd, as we took part in a Maths of the Day Activity to consolidate our written division stategies. We split into three teams and took part in a relay activity called "Division Climb".
Each team had a ladder to climb. At each stage of the ladder there was a written division question to turn over and solve; we had to write down any workings out and calculate the answer using an efficient written method.
The first team to answer all the questions correctly and reach the top of the ladder was declared the winner!

St Mary's Got Talent Show
Fri 06 Mar 2020Wow what an incredibly talented group of children we have at St Mary's! This afternoon we held our annual St Mary's Got Talent show for our pupils to share their gifts and talents with one another. From singing and dancing, to puppet shows and telling jokes they were all wonderful and very inspirational acts. A HUGE well done to all who performed, as well as our hilarious presenters who have spent weeks preparing their scripts, our music technicians who managed all the music and our school arts council who organised the show. WELL DONE SUPERSTARS!

World Book Day 2020
Thu 05 Mar 2020What a fantastic World Book Day yet again! We enjoyed this years theme and coming into school wearing our pjs...we were so comfy all day!
Thank you to everyone who entered our Book in a Box competition, the staff were blown away with all of them, they were amazing! We opened up the hall at 3:15pm for parents to look at the boxes...they were as impressed as staff! Lots of lovely comments made on how much you had enjoyed making them, you are all so creative!
Well done to our winners...it was not an easy task to choose so teachers decided to pick for different classes, that way they did not know who had made which box.
Congratulations:
Jace and Violet
Blake and Kuba
Lily and George
Lorenzo and Alfie
