Forest Schools Orienteering
On Friday, Year 6 took part in the inaugural St Mary's Forest School Orienteering Session. As part of the Geography and Maths Curriculum is learning about the eight compass points, positions, directions and using a compass we combined it all in one session.
Around the school grounds there were Orienteering Flags and punches that the children had to find by following instructions from each point. First we had to learn how to use a compass which resulted in lots of children spinning round trying to find North and eventually realising that it is the compass that moves and not the person.
Then it was off and there were some confused looks at first and some flags were found out of the running order but on the whole a good session in the sunshine (thankfully.) Now let's see if Year 5 can find them quicker this week...
