Welcome to St Mary's R.C. Primary School.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to St Mary’s School. We hope your child will benefit from attending our school. If you have not already done so, you are very welcome to visit the school, by arrangement with the Headteacher. Please telephone the school for details.
Our present school opened in February 1975 as a Voluntary Aided Primary School in the Catholic sector of education but there has been a St Mary’s School in Swinton for well over 100 years. In January 1980, a Nursery was added to our present buildings. In September 2010 a new EYFS unit was opened to accommodate Nursery and Reception children together within one setting.
The school stands in three acres of grounds and playing fields. The school has open areas and every age group has its own classroom and this we feel is the best arrangement for the educational benefit of our children.
The children spend two years in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in Nursery and Reception, two years in Key Stage 1 and four years in Key Stage 2. Classes are of mixed ability i.e. there is no streaming of children based on ability. Where necessary, children are given individual support in certain subjects. Our Nursery caters for 30 children. The children attend on a full time basis. Allowances will be made for children on a part time basis for a short period of time until they settle. There will be staggered intake in the nursery for the first two weeks.
The Nursery offers a wealth of pre-school experiences and activities to the children and perhaps, most importantly, it provides the opportunity to mix socially with children of the same age and with similar interests and abilities.
Meetings and discussions are always held with parents prior to the children commencing in September.
Number of children on roll at St. Mary’s RC Primary School is 234.
