  • Cross Country Training – Every Monday 3.30 – 4.30pm

    Mon 10 Sep 2018

As expected, we have had a great response for the Cross Country Squad with lots of new and established names signing up. Training will now take place, EVERY Monday (weather permitting) after school – 3.30 – 4.30.

We had the first session today and a tired bunch of children left afterwards. We’ve only one more training session before the first Salford METS race on Saturday 22nd. Hopefully we shall see more of the squad there next Monday.

Please ensure your child has running trainers for the session as pumps on damp grass can be an injury hazard.

Well done tonight and see you next Monday evening.

  • John Rylands Library & Spinningfields

    Thu 12 Jul 2018

Year 5C enjoyed a trip to the fantastic John Rylands Library yesterday. The children were amazed at the architecture, history and purpose of the library and, of course, the mystery surrounding it’s potential haunting. Watch for the third window on the top floor!

We walked around the library, learning all about the collections, some of the famous individual pieces of work, and why Mrs Rylands, a wealthy woman, had decided to build the library. We then investigated some Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics texts to Coptic writing before the children wrote their own names on papyrus.

As we had finished early we had a small wander around Spinningfields taking in the Left Bank, the flooded remains of the Mark Addy, had a talk about the People’s Museum and then saw the latest climate change demonstration outside the Crown Courts.

  • Watersports

    Wed 11 Jul 2018

Year 5C finished off their water sports adventure on Monday. The groups had taken turns in the different activities; kayaking, canoeing, raft building and sailing. The weather has been perfect for messing about on the water as, at any given opportunity, the children launched themselves in for a refreshing dip. It has been all smiles and laughter and a delight to see everyone becoming more confident as the weeks went by.

Well done Year 5C and hopefully we’ll see you back down at the Helly Hansen centre over summer to continue your nautical adventure.

  • Sports Day 2108

    Thu 05 Jul 2018

The houses of Fatima, Knock, Lourdes and Walsingham went head to head in this years annual sports day. The sportsmanship shown from all houses was outstanding as they didn’t only cheer their own team on, but they cheered the other teams also – St Mary’s mates through and through.

At the end of a hot morning, Walsingham were announced as this years winners.

  • Year 3 Visit John Ryland’s Library

    Wed 04 Jul 2018

What a wonderful trip to start our week! Year 3 took a trip to the historic John Ryland’s Library in Manchester to take part in a book making workshop. The children (and teachers!) were amazed by the building itself, it’s neogothic interior reminded us of something out of Harry Potter. The children got a glimpse of Manchester City Center at one of it’s busiest times, we navigated the hustle and bustle on the outskirts of Spinningfields and admiried JRL from the outside. The books the children produced are fantastic, and a testament to their brilliant listening skills. The library is open from 10am most days and all of the children said they would love to visit again and explore further during the Summer.

  • Fruitilicious

    Wed 04 Jul 2018

Even though the glorious weather is making life hot, it’s certainly helping our fruit trees grow. Planted only a few years ago the cherry and apples trees are producing some sumptuous fruit and the grape vines and blackberries are following suit.

We have also seen the wild flowers and hedges starting to take shape in the forest area. We just need to make sure that they are watered daily! Step up the Eco Team and Year 6.
