WOW Walk To School Badge Competition 2020
Tue 21 Jan 2020The School continues to take part in the WOW Walk to School Challenge. Children qualify each week by just walking ONCE to OR from school and ditching the car. We have lots of children currently making use of the Park & Stride locations at Aldi & Morrisons and quite a number are riding their bikes each day.
Now for the Fun Part!
READY TO GET CREATIVE?
Our annual badge design competition gives pupils the chance to design the 11 WOW badges. Last year, we had over 100,000 entries making it one of the biggest design competitions for children in the UK.
WOW is our year-round walk to school challenge. Those who walk to school at least once a week for a month earn a WOW badge. There are 11 to collect across the year.
Simply encourage your child to draw any wonder of the world - natural or built by humankind - on the badge template overleaf. Scan or send the designs to us and we'll turn 11 winning entries into more than 400,000 badges to be awarded to WOW pupils across the UK next year.
PRIZES ON OFFER!
Up to £500* free WOW resources for 11 winning schools, plus 5 additional schools selected by prize draw .
Trophies for winners and highly commended runners-up .
TOP TIPS FOR WINNING DESIGNS
Be big, bold and colourful!
WOW badges are only 3cm, so simple designs without people or small details in them work best! .
Trademarks, logos, images of Strider will not qualify for the competition .
Winning designs will be digitally recreated, so pupils can use pencil, crayons or pens

Save The Date - Saver Internet Day is Coming!
Tue 21 Jan 2020Safer Internet Day: managing online identity
This year's Safer Internet Day on 11 February encourages young people to explore how they manage their online identity, and how the internet shapes how they think of themselves and others.
The children will be taking part in session helping to create even more awareness about how they can stay safe online. This is a conversation that teachers, parents and carers should be having frequently with their children to ensure they are as protected as they can be.

Cross Country Season Ends
Mon 20 Jan 2020Another season comes to an end and the St Mary's Cross Country Squad keeps on running.
This year has seen, quite possibly, two of the coldest Saturdays but Miss Crawshaw and Mr Chadwick cannot help but praise the dedication of the children (and their hardy parents) as they turned out for each race and truly ran their hearts out.
At training on Mondays we had lots of athletes really enjoying the sessions and throwing all their efforts into improving their speed and stamina and it showed as the season progressed and the runners improved their rankings at the races.
The squad lost quite a few runners last year but these were replaced with the current Year 3 crew who made up the bulk of the squad. Of course here at St Mary's we promote sporting participation and we love winners but equally we love those who try their best and do it with a smile on their faces.
So a very big thank you to all the runners who came to all the training sessions and the races - Faye, Hollie, Sophie, Thomas, Louie, Oscar, Olivia, Orla, Isabella, Mariella, Ava, Isabelle, Seren, Neiva, Summer, Alfie & Jakub.
Training will start again in September for next season and hopefully with everyone moving up an age group we will be even more successful. For those who have really enjoyed the experience and want to continue in athletics please have a look at the Salford Harriers website - www.salfordharriers.co.uk where some of our children already train and race for.
Thanks again to all the parents for giving up those early Saturday mornings and bracing the inclement weather that Manchester and Salford seem to throw at us on race days.

Year 4 are UNIQUE
Fri 17 Jan 2020Today year 4 celebrated their class assembly with the children and parents of St Mary's.
They explained that each of us are all special in our own way. They told the story of a king who wasn't happy with the way he was, only to end up back to the special king he was at the beginning.
Dear God, thank you for blessing us with our own talents and being special in your eyes.
Amen.

Yr 4 - Poets of the future!
Fri 10 Jan 2020This week in our English lessons we have been reciting poems from various Poets. We then wrote our own versions in the same style and then performed these to the class. Our favourite poem of the week is 'Don't' by Michael Rosen.

LEGO Club
Tue 07 Jan 2020The children had great fun this afternoon in our Lego Club. They worked so well with each other and really used their fantastic imaginations. It was great to see the many different models. We had a robot that picks up plastic in the ocean, a moon rocket, a golden dragon, a holiday resort and some great attempts at the initials of our names.
A big thank you to Asda for their kind donation last year.
