  • The Big Soup Share

Fri 18 Oct 2019 Mr Chadwick

We are very fortunate at St Mary's to have excellent grounds to grow some fantastic vegetables and fruits.

Last week some of the Year 3 children helped Mr Sabatino harvest the produce and then it was cleaned, peeled, chopped and turned into a fantastic rustic Italian soup!

And how tasty was it? Just look at the faces of two of the children who sampled it.

  • Who Can Build The Tallest Eiffel Tower?

Fri 18 Oct 2019 Monsieur Chadwick

As part of our French Day we combined a landmark with a Science challenge. Who can build the tallest structure using only marshmallows and spaghetti.

The class split into five teams and all had a different design process. Some went for small but steady whilst other went for big and tall immediately but then found that the slightest breath would knock them over.

The winning group managed to design a great base and then add so it almost resembled the Famous Parisian Landmark.

    Well done team!

  • Growth Mindset and Wellbeing

    Thu 10 Oct 2019 L.Johnson

We joined BBC Teach on Thursday, 10th October 2019, with a very special live interactive lesson which was aimed at promoting emotional wellbeing and encouraging a growth mindset in primary school pupils aged 7 - 11.

In this 30-minute live, interactive lesson, we explored:

    • recognising emotions;
    • developing resilience and a growth mindset; and
    • tips for self-care.

We took part in many activities and discussions about not having a 'fixed mindset' but to have a 'growth mindset' - say to yourself, 'Yes I can do it!'

  • St. Mary's Harvest Celebration Mass

Thu 10 Oct 2019 Mr Loynd

This morning we welcomed Father Paul into school for our Harvest Celebration mass.

At Harvest time it's important to thank God for everything that he gives us to eat - all of the different crops that are grown in the earth, before being harvested and eaten.

During mass, we prayed for the farmers who plant, tend and feed the crops, and for the workers who transport our food and make it available to us.

We offered our mass for people in our country and in the wider world who are experiencing food shortages.

We sang some of our favourite hymns to celebrate harvest, including Autumn Days and The Best Gift.

We also placed all our food donations for the Loaves and Fishes charity around the altar for our mass.

Finally, a reminder that we are still collecting food donations for Loaves and Fishes for the rest of this week.   So even if you missed sending a donation in for today's mass, it's not too late.  Any more food donations will be gratefully received.  Thank you for all your support.
