    STEM Lessons

    STEM are excited to launch a selection of free curriculum-linked science lessons for pupils and parents to support home teaching.

    Covering a range of topics, these lessons are remote-delivered and can be accessed at any time of the day, making them easy to fit around your schedule.
     

    Suitable for all ages, these science lessons help improve subject knowledge and understanding.

  • Great Science Share

    The Great Science Share launches its weekly themes today to inspire children to ask questions in the run up to 16th June 2020!

    Bringing children, young people, families, teachers and STEM professionals together.

    1. The first Weekly Theme is LIVE for you to explore. All you need to do is get curious using brand new GSS Question Makers and talk to others about what you're curious about.
    2. The Great Science Groove-along is a creative way to share science. It's also released this week, so rally your family, friends and colleagues and have some fun recording your groove.
    3. A wide range of extra resources provide ways to investigate and explore the theme further. It's up to you how much you do!
    4. Now share your favouritre questions and any investigations to feature on the 2020 Great Science Share Gallery, using the GSS Upload, Twitter @GreatSciShare, or Facebook @GreatSciShare4Schools

    Let's make this year the greatest - seeing all the science you share in the coming weeks! The 16th June will be a special day where we bring it all together with more ideas and activities.

  • Stay At Home VE Day Picnic Party

    Who's joining us next Friday 8th May for our very special Stay at Home VE Day Picnic Party? Make some red, white and blue decorations, a bit of bunting, and plan your picnic for an afternoon of celebrations. You could even wear your red, white and blue clothes. Don't forget to share your pictures of the celebration on our school twitter page.

    Good morning everyone!

     

    As we end week 6 of staying at home we hope you are all safe and well. 

     

    This week we celebrated the 100th Birthday of Captain Tom Moore. A war veteran, who raised £32 million by walking laps of his garden, what an inspiration to all! We hope you enjoyed making birthday cards for him!

     

    The teachers have again enjoyed seeing all of your work both online and photographs of your creations, experiments, baking and exercising. Thank you for all your hard work and to your parents for being such fantastic teachers as well as working from home or being key workers, we really do appreciate it. 

     

    This weeks Purple Mash Stars of the Week are:

    Year 2 = Julia

    Year 3 = Ava H

    We can see other classes are racing up the leader board and trying for top spot but Year 4 have topped it again this week for BOTH! Well done Year 4!

  • Charlie Waller Memorial Trust Wellbeing Challenge

    The CWMT Wellbeing Challenge is a free interactive challenge that has been adapted for parents to do at home with their children in the current circumstances.

    The idea is to encourage young people to think positively about their mental health; it’s based around the ‘Five Ways to Mental Wellbeing’:

    Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, Give.

    The challenge is running for two weeks (Monday 4th May - Sunday 17th) and you could be in with the chance of winning a fabulous prize.


    The main aim is to complete at least one wellbeing activity for each of the five ways during this two-week period.

  • Competition Time

    The children's author, Luke Temple, is very passionate about getting children engaged with reading and writing.  He has provided St Mary's with some exciting 'home school' resources.  Luke has:

    *  Made his most popular book, Mutating Mansion, completely free to download.

    *  Created an activity pack for KS2, 'Luke Temple's Writing Toolbox'.  This contains lots of the tools he uses to make his books really exciting, fun and scary to read.

    *  There is also a competition in the activity pack to win a signed book and a free author visit to our school (there are 3 prizes up for grabs). 

    The closing date for the competition is 31st May.

  • The Wednesday Word

    Hello everyone, we hope you are all well and keeping safe.

     

    After a relaxing Easter break the home schooling has resumed this week and what a fantastic job you are all doing! Have you explored the new work packs under the children's tab? All the teachers have been very impressed with the work you are completing on Purple Mash, Spelling Shed and Maths Shed...keep up the hard work!

     

    This week BBC Bitesize Daily shows have started, we hope you have been enjoying them! If you haven't seen them yet, they are really easy to find on the BBC iplayer on your TV, smartphone, ipad or computer! Our keyworker children in school have been learning from them in between exploring the ideas on our website. This week we baked cakes and biscuits to say thank you to the wonderful NHS staff which their parents took into work for us! They sent a huge thank you to you all!
