National Lockdown COVID19 School Closures as of the 5.1.2021
Mon 04 Jan 2021Email sent to ALL parents tonight:
Dear parents and carers,
Unfortunately, after the 8.00 pm announcement from Boris Johnson, we regret to inform you that St Mary's School is closed tomorrow for ALL pupils except for key worker and vulnerable children - only if absolutely necessary. For children staying at home tomorrow, please use the work provided on the website. Teachers will email a timetable, via Purple Mash, detailing your child's remote learning plan by 3.30 pm tomorrow. Remote learning will commence from Wednesday.
If you require a key worker/vulnerable child place for your child tomorrow, please provide proof of key worker status as per the previous lockdown.
We do have a list of key worker and vulnerable children already. If you are new to school or new to key worker status, please reply to this email.
School will be open from 8.00 am if you still require breakfast club.
Please remember that staying at home is the safest place for your child at this moment in time. If there is somebody at home, please keep your child at home.
We will continue to support our school community as much as we can.
When we have more information we will be in contact.
Stay safe,
Kind regards,
Mrs Raynor

Kindness Calendar 2020
Wed 09 Dec 2020All through December, we are encouraging the children to learn about and practise kindness with The Snowman and The Snowdog kindness calendar.
Times have certainly been challenging this year, and we have all had to cope with and are still having to live with a lot of changes to our lives.
The British Red Cross is dedicated to helping create resilient communities, being kind and connected is an important part of resilience.
Let us all help our children to grow in power and strength to allow kindness and friendship to thrive in our school and community and also support them and others in overcoming challenges and changes.

St Mary’s Feast Day
Tue 08 Dec 2020Today we celebrated the feast of the Patron Saint of our school, St Mary.
For Catholics living all around the world, 8th December is a special feast day known as the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception.
We came together as a community to share a virtual assembly and sang some lovely hymns. All the children received a small treat and spent some time with their friends completing a peaceful mindfulness colouring activity.

Anti Bullying Week 2020
Tue 17 Nov 2020Every November schools throughout the United Kingdom take part in Anti-Bullying Week. This is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on bullying and consider the steps we can take together to stop it.
Anti-Bullying Week 2020 is taking place from Monday 16th to Friday 20th November this year and it has the theme ‘United Against Bullying’.
We kicked off the week with our Odd Socks day, where all children in school were invited to wear odd socks in recognition of the fact that we are all different and unique, and that our differences should be respected and celebrated.
We defined bullying as being the repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, and we discussed how bullying could be physical, verbal or psychological. It can also happen face-to-face or online.
We also spent some time discussing how bullying can often be group behaviour, with a ringleader who initiates and leads the bullying, without always being the person who is "doing" the bullying themselves. The target, meanwhile is the person or people at whom the bullying is aimed. The bullying group could also contain reinforcers (people who support the bullying, and who might laugh and encourage other people to join in) and assistants (who are actively involved in the bullying too).
We discussed how we could help to stop bullying by acting as defenders for the targets (people who stand up for the person who is being bullied; this might also involve talking to an adult in school about something that they have seen or heard).
Following on from this, we completed individual tasks related to Odd Socks Day and Anti-Bullying week to show our own knowledge and understanding.

Road Safety Week Begins...
Mon 16 Nov 2020The days are getting shorter and the sun is going down a lot earlier. To coincide with the seasonal change, it is National Road Safety Week.
Now more important than ever as we have lots more children and families walking to school or cycling in the evenings and weekends.
Please make sure that the children are wearing bright clothes if out at night, or have reflectors on their bikes and at least can be seen in the glare of headlights from cars, buses, heavy goods lorries and motorbikes.
To start off the week, Year 1 have produced some amazing artwork highlighting how they are safe on the streets. Keep those ideas coming St Mary's and mots importantly...
STAY SAFE!
