  • What a final!

    Tue 18 Jul 2017

Final of the Man Utd Memorial Cup saw unbeaten St Mary’s take on unbeaten St Luke’s at Holy Family Primary School.

St Luke’s took hold of the game from the kick off which led to two great goals. St Mary’s found it hard to break them down. Half time: St Mary’s 2 – St Luke’s 2.

A game of two halves as it was St Mary’s turn to command the game which led to a goal from a long range shot from Finley. Pressure was on! St Luke’s kept it strong in midfield which resulted in a goal. 3-1. With their heads held high, St Mary’s went on the attack to narrow the margin which they did with another great strike from Finley, 3-2. With time running out, St Mary’s tried their best to find an equaliser but were beaten by the clock. An excellent team performance and a man of the match performance from Finley.

What a match it was – two teams represented each school with honour and pride.

    Final score: St Mary’s 2 – St Luke’s 3.

The children had surprise visitors to their Monday morning assembly! Sergeant Bullock and PC Howard, both firearm officers, came to speak to the children. Following the Manchester bombing at the MEN Arena children made thank you cards and wrote thank you letters to all the emergency services, including the firearm officers who were first at the scene. They were touched by the kind words from the children and just had to come and say thank you.

    Mon 03 Jul 2017

What an AMAZING week we have all had at St Mary’s for Arts week! We visited a continent a day and enjoyed learning about individual countries art, music, dance, cultures and traditions. We had Indian dance and music workshops, guitar performances, steel pan lessons, drama sessions, singing lessons, song writing, craft making and much more. We would like to thank all the professionals who worked with us throughout the week for giving us such a wonderful experience.

  • St Mary’s Very Own Art Gallery

    Mon 03 Jul 2017

As part of our Arts Week each child created their own “Banksy” inspired art work for our very own Art Exhibition. We have all been looking at street art from around the world and in our very own city of Manchester and created our art work from that. Then the team at My Masterpiece framed all our art work and put it on display for the exhibition. We all felt so proud when we saw the finished pieces. Well done everyone!

  • Sustainable St Mary’s

    Fri 30 Jun 2017

The St Mary’s Allotment Project continues and with the tireless work of Mr Sabatino and the Year 3 planters as you can see the raised beds have been built, filled with high grade soil and now the planting has begun.

Already we have peas, runner beans, corn, cucumbers and strawberries growing. The strawberries have their own home in the brilliantly designed Fiatino tractor. There will be additions to the allotment as it is an on-going project.

We hope to introduce a small poly tunnel for getting the seedlings ready for next year, a water feature and some more benches and chairs so people can relax in the quiet environment.

As the children will be enjoying a hard earned break the allotment would need some tender loving care over summer. If there are any parents willing to drop in from time to time, when the school is open, to just do a spot of weeding or watering that would be fantastic. Of course you may receive payment in kind with some veg.
