  • Year 6 International Day of Peace Assembly

Wed 18 Sep 2019 Mr Loynd

This morning, Year 6 led a special whole school celebration assembly about the International Day of Peace.  We will celebrate World Peace Day this year on Saturday 21st September.  The first World Peace Day was celebrated in 1982, and it has been celebrated every year since.

The theme for World Peace Day changes each year, and this year's theme is Climate Action for Peace.  Climate change is threatening the peace and stability of people's lives around the world.  Did you know that natural disasters cause three times as many people to leave their homes as wars and conflict?

To celebrate World Peace Day, we can all play our part in reducing the devastating impact of climate change by:

    1. Reducing our meat intake, especially beef and pork.

    2. Turning down our heating and putting on a jumper when we are cold.

    3. Turning off the tap when we are brushing our teeth to save water.

By combating climate change, we can hopefully have a positive impact on the environment and can play our part in bringing about peace and stability across the world.

Please take a moment on World Peace Day to read and reflect on Year 6's prayer for peace:

God of peace, we pray for peace around the world.

Where there is hatred, sow seeds of calm.

Where there is destruction, help us to rebuild.

Where children are crying, bring an end to tears.

Shelter your peoples and protect them.

Guide them and keep them from harm.

    Amen.

  • Autumn Forest School Art Year 6

    Sun 15 Sep 2019 M Chadwick
Year 6 took part in the first Forest School session of the academic year. Owing to it being Autumn, and with lots of leaves falling off our trees, we decided to work together and create some fantastic leaf art. After being shown a few examples, the groups then had free reign to produce whatever they liked, in whatever shape they wanted.  The only stipulation was that leaves, twigs, stones were the only items they could use. So off they foraged and have produced some wonderful examples. Well done to all of the groups - we had a nature compass, a dark tower, a tortoise, bearded circle and the 'Proposal.'

  • Sacramental Celebration

Fri 13 Sep 2019 Mrs Murphy
Congratulations to our Year 4 children on their Sacramental Celebration day. This morning in assembly they shared the good news of their sacramental journey and we all enjoyed a St Mary's tradition; Our Shared Table.
  • Impressive ICT in Year 1

Wed 11 Sep 2019 Miss Sackfield
Today, in year 1's ICT lesson, the children practiced logging on and logging off. All the children worked brilliantly taking turns, using the keyboard and the mouse to log onto the year 1 area. We talked about keeping our password safe and even made sure to whisper it in class! Well done year 1!
  • WOW Walk To School Initiative

    Mon 09 Sep 2019 M Chadwick

Children in Year 1 to Year 6 enjoyed a Monday morning visit from Daniel O'Connell from the Living Streets organisation and spoke about the benefits of walking/cycling/scootering/taking the bus or even parking some distance and walking the rest of the way. The children were brilliant and spoke about saving the planet, reducing harmful petrol fumes around school, road traffic accidents, getting healthy, enjoying nature and most imprortantly spending an extra five or ten minutes chatting with parents/grandparents or helpers as they walked that small distance.

So the children in KS1 and KS2 will be tracking how they have arrived at school. We have set a challenge of at least twice a week, not taking the car (all the way to school) and they will receive badges created and designed by other children, based on famous inventions that changed the world.

For those wishing to have that extra five minute walk we have set the Park & Stride distance to the Aldi & Morrison car parks. There will be class competitions running and we know that some parents find the morning rush tricky with work and siblings at other schools but if you could help the children really achieve the twice a week goal it would be brilliant for the school and children and of course you.

  • Year 2 Dance

Mon 09 Sep 2019 Mrs Murphy
Year 2 had an excellent time in their first dance lesson of the year and learnt a whole dance in just one lesson! They covered disco moves to the song "I'm still standing", and many children joined in with the singing too. Well done dancers - keep it up!
  • Year 4 Dance
