3d Shapes
Fri 08 Nov 2019Our maths focus this week has been on 3d shapes. We have discussed what faces, edges and vertices are and have been introduced to some new shape names such as:
Hexagonal Prism
Square based pyramid
Pentagonal Prism
Part of the Year 3 maths curriculum is that children can create 3d models so today we looked at nets and they had to cut, glue and make the shapes. It was a really fun and interesting lesson and the children all challenged themselves with harder shapes.
Next week we'll be making them out of other materials...

Death Mask Design
Fri 08 Nov 2019The class have been combining their History topic with Art. We have looked further into why the Egyptians had Death Masks as part of their burial ritual and the children designed their own. Of course they look far better than King Tutankhamun's!
This week was stage one where we had to cut out the shape of the mask and then paper mache the face mask on. It might have been messy but it was great fun. Today we did part two and painted and undercoat of Gold onto the masks.

Dem Bones Dem Bones Dem Dry Bones
Fri 08 Nov 2019Year 3 are embarking on their next Science topic and looking at the Human Skeleton, Movement and Nutrition.
We had a look at a picture of a skeleton and named some bones and then the children had to recreate it using dog biscuits and chews. First attempts were quite strange - a missing leg, head or even spine but the second efforts were much better.
The class also has a visitor for the rest of term - a skeleton they've named Mr C!
