Year 5 are authors for a day!
Year 5C & 5L were very fortunate last week to enjoy the visit of the author Sarah Oliver. Sarah didn’t come to simply talk about books and her inspirations but turned the visit on its head and had the children working as authors of her new book which will be out early next year. Called ‘The Best World Book Week Ever’ the children had some images of the characters to work with but basically collaborated on different sections of the book to create the words developing the story.
They worked in small groups with Sarah and then Mrs Chandler and Mrs Farnworth to develop their ideas. After keeping each section a secret the children then returned to the hall to plan, practise and act out the performance. It really was an example of action in words. The performance was fantastic considering the short time frame the children had and told the story of Danny and his friends.
Sarah will now go and work with her illustrator to develop the book using the children’s ideas and will return with an official copy of their book for Year 5 to sign and display in school. Our very own group of authors!
