Viking and Anglo-Saxon Experience Day at Tatton Park
Year 5 & 6 visited Tatton Park or Tayt Ton park to experience life in Viking and Anglo times. This is building on the topics each class have covered in History. Year 6 and half of 5C opted for the luxury of the Old Hall as the day was very cold and mist coated the grounds. Year 5L and the rest of 5C braved the outdoors at the Farm.
The groups were split into three smaller teams as they experienced different facets of life in this period. Here the children learnt about fighting and the weapons used. Roaming around the park were deer which would have been present in Anglo times. Also present would have been Wild Boar and here Boris is wearing Little Boris.
The children also had the opportunity to make Bread in the old ways. They had to grind the flour, mix the ingredients and kneed them all before placing them on the open fire. The children also looked at tools and artefacts from the period and had to guess their uses and how much they were worth. Most expensive was the Lantorn made from horns and metal.
