Squad Success!!!

After the final race in the Salford METS events, our Cross Country Squad have excelled themselves and as a result both the boys and girls teams came 3rd Overall.

The boys were narrowly beaten by St Mark’s CE School and Broadoak and the girls pipped by St Marks CE & James Brindlay.

Over the course of the three races each athlete ran their hearts out and were brilliant. We had our newcomers getting straight into the spirit of the competition and our experienced runners supported them and showed them how we can get better each week. Every runner managed to either beat their position from the previous week on one occasion or else it was a narrow finish. Miss Crawshaw and I are absolutely delighted with the attitude displayed by the whole squad and the fact they all worked as a team.

Whilst a great result for the whole team, there were also some notable individual success. With everything to play for in the last race, Kian managed his best position to grab Thurd Place overall for the boys. Oscar was also in the running until an untimely fall made him lose ground. But as ever, Oscar has one of the finest attitude’s among our runners and really understand the meaning of perseverance, as he got up and motored back towards the top 10. It was an unfortunate end to the three races for Oscar but will certainly stand him well for the main Schools championships. The actual race was again won by Gabriel who would have claimed overall top spot but unfortunately missed the middle race. For the girls, Imogen cemented her position in the top ten with another fine run and showed how well she had progressed over the year. More to come from her in the Schools championships as well!

The race results are:

Ashlee – 8th, Imogen – 9th, Anya – 14th, Ashley – 17th, Sophie – 21st, Pippa – 38th, Orla – 49th, Holly – 55th, Poppy – 61st, Holly – 62nd
