Olympic Day
Olympic Day is an annual celebration of the Olympic Movement. It encourages people around the world to get physically active and enjoy the power of sport whilst learning about the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect.
This year, the Team GB Foundation have partnered with The Daily Mile Foundation – an initiative that encourages young people to run, walk or wheel outdoors with their friends for 15 minutes everyday, to experience the physical and mental benefits of being active.
Through this partnership, St Mary’s have been given the opportunity to host a special Olympic Day Daily Mile. The children got physically active through their Daily Mile whilst learning about the history of the Olympic Movement, Team GB and different Olympic Sports.
Two Olympians: Max Whitlock and Abigail Irozuru welcomed the children in to school this morning before hosting a whole school assembly with a question and answer session.
The children got to see the Olympians perform routines from their specialist area - even getting Max Whitlock to perform a backward somersault over Mr Johnson. They then went outside onto the running track, and alongside the children and staff ran the daily mile.
What a memorable day for the whole of St Mary’s School!
