PTA Plant Sale and Coffee Afternoon
On Friday, 7th May, the PTA held their annual Plant Sale and Coffee Afternoon. Once again the event was a great success. We were able to order some beautiful plants at a bargain price. People also came along to enjoy the delicious cakes that were on sale and to take time out to have a chat with friends both old and new.
PTA Bring & Buy Sale and Coffee Afternoon:
A great big thank you to all those who helped to make last half-term's PTA fundraising event a roaring success! Once again you were very generous at sending in items for the sale. A wide range of fantastic gifts were donated as well as lots of wonderful cakes.
Doors opened at 2.45pm and customers were delighted with the great offers. There was a steady stream of customers throughout the event and once again by hometime the hall was packed with parents, grandparents and children enjoying both the bargains available and the delicious tea and cakes.
Thanks from the PTA:
St Mary’s PTA would like to say a really big thank you to all the children who modelled at the fashion show in November. They were all brilliant and the people from Clothes Horse Kids commented on what well behaved children we had at St. Mary's. Also thank you to all the parents/grandparents who supported the event and made it a great success. We raised £450 altogether for PTA funds.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas craft coffee afternoon. This was a huge success with a fantastic atmosphere enjoyed by all. We raised £183 for funds.
Get involved and help your school!!
We are very fortunate at our school to have a PTA that is an integral part of the school community. In it's time the PTA has raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education and the facilities of school in general.
But it is more than just fundraising. The PTA exists to provide closer links between home and school. We are very conscious of the ethos and morals of our school and we try hard to respect them in organizing events
Our PTA committee consists of four officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary).
Our current committee is Chair- Sandra Horton, Vice Chair – x, Treasurer – Paul Moore and Secretary – Annette Downes.
We Meet on a regular basis usually once every 2 months for very informal meetings which are open to all our members. Every parent of every child is automatically a member.
As in most schools, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run.
- Summer Fairs - our main fundraising event
- Christmas Raffle –
- Coffee afternoons. Usually 1 each ½ term. On a Friday at 2:45pm. These are a great way to meet other parents in the school.
- Plant sale. Plants to order from a local nursery at great prices. We have done this for the last 2 years.
- School uniform – We are in the school hall at 3:30pm usually on the first Wednesday of each month (please check above for exact dates).
- Match Funding
This is a very simple practice. Certain organizations will match an amount that an employee has raised at an event. We have been helped greatly by this type of donation. PTA benefits by sometimes doubling what we have raised at an event! Mrs. Raynor has a list of companies who do this. If you think you may work for an organization that provides this service please contact the school.
In the main the PTA funds are for the "extras" not provided by the school budget that make our children's learning experiences more fulfilling and exciting.
The PTA also funds other activities for the children
- We subsidize the cost of some school trips
- We organize and fund the Year 6 leaver’s party, First Holy Communion party and Christmas parties and gifts for infant children.
- We have provided money to buy books, musical instruments and road safety equipment.
- This year we are saving for large playground equipment – we have just held a sponsored event to raise funds for this.
How do you get information?
We send out regular newsletters giving dates of P.T.A meetings, forthcoming events and requests for help. These will be brought home by your children..
There is a committee of 4 officers, but the committee alone cannot run the events we hold over the year.
So how can you help?
There are lots of ways you can help support your child through the PTA.
Offering to help before, during or after events during the year is so invaluable - it really is the case that many hands make light work
You can attend our meetings and give us ideas for fundraising, let us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use, or simply come and listen.
Thank You
