Admissions Policy

Please note that:

Criteria for admission to school

1. Baptized Roman Catholic children who are resident in the Parish of St Mary’s, Swinton, or who with their parents/person who has parental responsibility, worship regularly at St Mary’s, Swinton.

If there is over subscription in this first category, precedence will be decided as follows:

(i) Children who, with their parents/person with legal responsibility, worship regularly in the Catholic church
(ii)Children with a brother or sister currently at St Mary’s School

2. Baptised Roman Catholic children with a brother or a sister currently at St Mary’s, School.

3. Other baptized Roman Catholic Children.

4. Children with a brother or sister in St Mary’s School.

5. Children belonging to a faith community.

6. Approved medical, psychological or social reasons.

7. Other children

NOTES

a) The standard class size for each year is 30. If we become over subscribed a waiting list will be introduced. I f a vacancy occurs admittance will be based on a straight line distance from home to school.

b) Proof of Baptism (baptismal certificate) and a home address (utility bill) MUST accompany the application.

c) To determine a commitment to a faith community, a letter will be required from a Religious Leader of the pertinent faith.

d) A brother or sister is defined as a natural brother or sister, or stepbrother or sister or foster/adopted brother or sister who lives in the same household and which is the child’s genuine main residence.

e) “Persons with legal responsibility” must have legal charge of the child

f) The governing body reserve the right to admit children with proven and exceptional medical and social needs. If such an application is submitted for medical needs a letter from a doctor with appropriate evidence will be required.

g) If an application for admission has been turned down by the governing body, parents can appeal to an independent appeals panel. This appeal must be sent in writing to the Clerk to the Governors at the school within 14 days of notification of refusal. The date of notification will be 2 working days after posting first class post. The parents must give their reasons for appealing in writing and the decision of the Appeals Panel is binding on the governors.
